Illinois sportsbooks reported a combined sports betting handle of $509,794,591 for the 28 days of February for the first month-over-month decline since sports betting launched in July of 2020.
The latest report from the Illinois Gaming Board shows that bettors placed an average of $18.2 million in bets per day. This marks a slight drop on January’s average of $18.8 million per day.
February’s handle sees Illinois become the third largest sports betting market in the US behind New Jersey and Nevada who posted handles of $743 million and $554.1 million respectively.
However, there are fears the the reinstatement of in-person registration requirements for online bettors could curtail the industry’s growth in the coming months.
