Indiana Sports Betting Activity Down by 8% Year-on-Year

State collects second highest tax haul in 2023

The Indiana Gaming Commission has released its latest monthly revenue report revealing that the state’s licensed sportsbooks accepted just over $283.4 million in wagers throughout the month of May.

The latest figures represent a drop of 12% from the previous month’s reported handle of $321.4 million and the third month in a row that wagering activity has dropped significantly on a monthly basis. May’s figure was also an 8% drop compared to the $308 million reported in May 2022.

Indiana Sports Betting Activity Down by 8% Year-on-Year market leader reporting a handle of $96.5 million. Of that total figure, almost $96.2 million came through the casino’s online partnership with FanDuel.

Ameristar Casino was Blue Chip’s closest competitor as the company reported accepting $95.6 million in wagers. Of that figure, $93.7 million came through the casino’s online partnership with DraftKings while $1.8 million in wagers came through the casino’s retail sportsbook.

Horseshoe Hammond became the outright market leader in retail sports betting as the casino accepted over $1.929 million in wagers during May slightly ahead of its nearest competitor and long-time market leader Hollywood Lawrenceburg with $1.922 million.

Basketball remained the most popular sport at Indiana sportsbooks with $71.9 million wagered on the sport throughout the month.
