The Lithuanian Ministry of Finance has approved a resolution that will see new permit fees introduced for the gambling sector.

According to the resolution, casinos, slot venues, bingo halls and sports betting outlets will see permit fees increase to €1,504, with renewals set at €186. New totalizator sports betting outlets that enter the market will be charged a €717 permit fee and the same renewal fee.

Despite the increases, Lithuania gambling permit fees still remain among the lowest in Europe.

Funds collected through the newly increased fees will go towards initiatives aimed at reducing the harms of gambling and support safe gambling practices.

The new resolution is just one aspect of the government’s efforts to bring the online and land-based gambling industries under tighter regulation. Last month the Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Service issued a fine of €15,000 to Top Sport for allowing a user to make deposits to their account using another person’s debit card. This was the third time the company was fined so far this year.
