While many states place a ban on college sports proposition markets in their original sports betting legislation, there are still 20 states that allow sportsbooks to offer the markets.

State Sen. Jim Perry, the main supporter in the North Carolina Senate took it a step further by saying on social media: “It would be more productive to introduce legislation banning the NCAA.”

Critics of Louisiana’s ban suggest that any moves to restrict betting in the state could result in bettors moving to offshore sportsbooks which would have an impact on state taxes. During 2023, Louisiana sports betting generated $136.7 million in taxes.
