The move to ban college prop bets follows NCAA President Charlie Baker’s public call for any states with proposition markets to consider banning them.

At the time Baker said:

While many states place a ban on college sports proposition markets in their original sports betting legislation, there are still 20 states that allow sportsbooks to offer the markets.

Both Ohio and Maryland recently introduced their own bans on college prop bets, and while other states are taking the matter into consideration, North Carolina has ruled out a similar move. State Rep. Jason Saine, a major supporter of sports betting in the state House, said it was off the cards for this legislative session.

State Sen. Jim Perry, the main supporter in the North Carolina Senate took it a step further by saying on social media: “It would be more productive to introduce legislation banning the NCAA.”

Louisiana Bans College Prop Bets generated $136.7 million in taxes.
