Despite the reimbursement, the prosecution requested a freeze order on Jones’ assets based on the seriousness of the offenses relating to the complaint. These included misappropriation, acquiring money through fraud, making fraudulent gains, money laundering, and various accounting offenses.

Jones’ lawyers contested the freeze order but after hearing submissions Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace upheld the prosecution’s request and issued the freezing order.
