Pennsylvania Sports Betting Handle Drops by 6.7% to $447.4M for Month of May

The latest monthly revenue report from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board shows that licensed sportsbooks in the state posted a sports betting handle of $447,465,027 for the month of May. This marks a 6.67% drop on April's handle of $479,411,021 while January's handle of $615,294,827 remains the highest handle of 2021.

The latest monthly revenue report from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board shows that licensed sportsbooks in the state posted a sports betting handle of $447,465,027 for the month of May. This marks a 6.67% drop on April’s handle of $479,411,021 while January’s handle of $615,294,827 remains the highest handle of 2021.

Despite the drop in handle, operators generated revenue of $37,419,313, a 3.7% increase on April’s revenue figure of $36,033,727. The state’s combined taxable revenue came in at $27,746,484 generating taxes of $9,433,805.

Mobile sports bets accounted for 91% of the total handle with PA online sportsbooks taking in $407,398,753 in wagers. Online operator revenue totaled $32,178,038 for the month $22,505,210 of which was taxable. This generated state taxes of $7,651,771.

Retail sportsbooks took in $40,066,274 in wagers during the month generating $5,241,275 of taxable revenue. This resulted in state taxes of $1,782,033 up from April’s retail sports betting taxes of $1,634,776.

Valley Forge casino remains the market leader with a total handle of $163,461,947 of which $160,874,459 in wagers came through the casino’s online sportsbook. Valley Forge Casino’s handle was over $62M more than its closest rival Meadows that posted an overall handle of $101,351,223.
