Bill C-218 will amend the Canadian Criminal Code to allow single-event betting on sporting events. Currently, this type of betting is only allowed on horse racing in Canada.
The bill will now go to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in the coming days to receive royal assent. It will then be up to each of Canada’s provinces and territories to decide on the implementation of legal single-event sports betting within their existing gambling markets.
Single-Event Sports Betting in Canada Set to Become a Reality as Senate Passes Bill“The Senate’s passing of Bill C-218 earlier today is an historic moment for Canada as it will legalize single event sports betting. The passing of this important legislation allows theScore, along with our fellow stakeholders, to collectively usher in a robust industry that will drive business, technology innovation, employment and economic growth while providing a safe and trusted environment in which Canadians can wager on sports.
