Swedish Government to Introduce Licensing Requirement for Gambling Software Suppliers

If approved, the latest amendment of the Swedish Gambling Act will come into force from July 1st, 2023. The proposal is one of the latest attempts by the government to clamp down further on illegal gambling operators as it hopes to ensure a high level of accountability for gambling software providers.

According to Swedish regulator Spelinspektionen, any software supplier who is licensed to develop and supply gambling software will be prohibited from supplying its products and services to unlicensed gambling operators.

Ahead of a government decision on the proposal, Spelinspektionen is hosting an information meeting on December 7th for all licensed gambling operators and companies that currently supply or wish to supply gambling software in the future. The meeting will explain any changes to licensing conditions and the requirements for software suppliers.
