In an announcement released on the UEFA website, the European football governing body stated that Ibrahimovic had violated Article 12(2)(b) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR), for having a financial interest in a betting company.
UEFA regulations are quite strict on such matters and there was an initial fear that the player could have been banned from all footballing activities for as long as three years.
However, UEFA has decided that a financial penalty is enough provided that the player ceases his relationship with the company with immediate effect.
Ibrahimovic’s club AC Milan has also been fined €25,000 for the breach and warned to keep a closer eye on any relationships its players may have with companies that could cause a conflict of interest.
